Michael D. Aaronson, CPA, MPA
Founding Partner

Michael founded Michael D. Aaronson and Associates in 1983; a CPA for over 35 years, he graduated from the University of Rhode Island and has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. He was co-founder of the Support Center of Rhode Island and three-time national president of Accountants for the Public Interest. Michael has served on over 20 nonprofit boards of directors; currently he serves on four.

Denise M. Lavoie, CPA, MST, CFP™

Denise M. Lavoie, CPA, MST, CFP™
Managing Partner

Denise joined the firm in 1991 and became a partner in 1998. She became Managing Partner on January 1, 2009. Denise is a graduate of Bryant College, where she went on to earn a Master’s of Science in Taxation. She has worked in public accounting for more than twenty five years, specializing in the preparation of personal and corporate tax returns, non-profit auditing, and personal financial planning.

Rich Streitfeld CPA

Richard Streitfeld, CPA, CFE
Partner

Rich joined the firm in 1992 and became a partner in 1998. He loves working with businesses, entrepreneurs and artists and does personal financial planning. A graduate of Boston University, he directed an international non-profit and is also a Certified Fraud Examiner. Rich developed the state’s first same-sex planning seminar and leads business workshops for creatives, freelancers and new businesses. Rich loves promoting his clients, has a passion for social entrepreneurship and authors the singular newsletter, Enlightened Accounting: Dispatches from the Zen Mensch. He is also on the board of the Economic Progress Institute, a mentor for SE Greenhouse and an Affiliate (Non-Mediator) member of RI Mediator Association.

Adam Diaz, CPA, CPA, CFE

Adam Diaz, CPA
Partner

Adam joined the firm in 2000 and became a partner in 2006. Adam is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, and worked as an accountant at an international bank for more than six years. He is proficient in Spanish and has worked in public accounting for more than five years. He specializes in tax planning and preparation, business planning and audits of non-profit organizations.

Mike DeAngelis

Mike DeAngelis
Principal

Mike joined the firm in 2010. He manages ALSD’s Balancing Act Bookkeeping division and provides tax return preparation and financial reporting engagement services as well. Prior to joining the firm, Mike worked for five years as a manager for a local consulting company.  Mike is also a licensed life, accident, and health insurance producer in the State of Rhode Island.

Sue Campanelli

Sue Campanelli
Staff Accountant

Susan joined the firm in 2005 as a staff accountant. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Rhode Island College (1991) as well as an Associate in Accounting from the Community College of Rhode Island (1989). Her experience extends to the financial and office management of both medical and legal practices. Susan specializes in assisting clients with bookkeeping along with audit and tax preparation.

Catherine C. DeMeo

Catherine C. DeMeo
Manager

Catherine joined the firm in 1990 and is now a senior accountant at ALSD. She came to us from the private sector, with over 35 years of experience in manufacturing and construction businesses. Although a golden ager, Catherine plans to work for at least another 50 years, and given her youthful outlook and disposition, no one should bet against her.

Bill Dobbing

Bill Dobbing
Staff Accountant

Bill joined the firm in 2015. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Bryant University Bill has been in public accounting.  He specializes in the audits of not-for-profit organizations.  Bill has extensive knowledge of OMB Circular A-133 federal audits and continues to expand his skills into other accounting practices such as tax preparation and bookkeeping.

Harriet joined the firm in 2005. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Harriet has worked in accounting and management in both public and private industry for over 20 years. She specializes in the audit of nonprofit organizations and the preparation of personal and business tax returns.

Mark Merlino

Mark Merlino, CPA
Manager

Mark joined the firm in 2006, specializing in the audit of nonprofit organizations, and preparation of personal and business tax returns. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island, Mark embarked on a 26 year career with the City of Providence. Mark has also earned a masters degree in finance from Bryant College and certification in the administration of federal grants.

Elaine Morgan

Elaine Morgan
Manager

Elaine graduated in 1978 from Rhode Island College with a degree in math education. She had worked in the non-profit industry since 1989 before joining the firm in 1997. Elaine is in charge of some of the firm’s larger non-profit audit clients and is an expert in OMB Circular A-133 federal audits. Elaine came in first place for the longest drive in one of our client’s golf tournaments. Congratulations!

Jody has worked in the accounting field for more than 35 years, specializing in assisting clients with bookkeeping and tax preparation. She serves as Secretary of a local Boy Scout troop and Treasurer of a nonprofit group that provides musical education to singers through a choral music program.

Mary-Jo Younger

Mary-Jo Younger
Manager

Mary-Jo joined the firm in 1988 and is a graduate of Providence College, where she earned her accounting degree. She has worked in public and private accounting since 1979. In addition to her audit and accounting practice, Mary Jo is adept in all areas of personal and business tax return preparation. When not preparing tax returns and financial statements, Mary-Jo is very active in youth sports organizations and with other nonprofit organizations.
